Twelve-year-old Elise, who lives on a farm with her aunt and uncle, has just entered the somewhat terrifying world of Middle School. She has to make the decision to either put away childish fun or face being terrorized by the most popular girl in school. Both her mother and father have passed away, but she has recently discovered that her father left an intriguing puzzle behind for her to solve. Eight keys mysteriously appear, one after another, to open each of 8 doors in the barn's second story. What will she find behind each door, and how will she be changed?
